Parking
Normally: park on the gravel driveway (or snug to the birch trees at the end).
If snow falling or expected: park at END of driveway by the birch trees so plow can get through.
Plow will clear your spot β no need to go out in the snow.
Trash & Sand
Two bright blue barrels = trash β pickup typically Tuesdays.
Secure the straps to keep critters out.
Food scraps β small white metal container on counter β outdoor trash periodically (helps with ants).
Dark grey barrel = SAND for winter walkways/driveway. The plow will sand; feel free to spread more for traction. Not for trash.
Pets
Please pick up after your dog and dispose in a trash can.
Brown quilted pet blankets are provided β please use them if your dog likes the upholstered furniture (ours do too).
Pet blankets live in the hallway linen closet.
Kitchen β Coffee
β Nespresso machine β first round of pods on us, in the canister next to the machine.
Burr grinder + drip coffee maker on the opposite counter. Filters in the drawer below.
Nespresso quick-start: lift the silver bar up β drop pod in on its side β push bar down β press the small or large cup button (lit green).
Bottom tray for regular cups (sturdier); fold the upper tray up. Cups for the bottom tray are in the cabinet above.
To eject: lift bar, gently pull the tray out, discard the used pod, replace tray.
Kitchen β Equipped
Pots, pans, mixers, baking gear, knives β everything from leftovers to a full Thanksgiving dinner.
Monitor heater #1 is in the kitchen (#2 is in the master bedroom). See the Heater Guide.
π₯ Fire extinguisher in the pantry closet (and another by the washer/dryer tower).
Working CO and smoke detectors throughout the house.
Linens & Bedding
Hallway linen closet β extra linens for your stay.
Twin bedding for the living-room daybed lives in the linen closet.
Daybed blankets are in the closet in the smaller bedroom.
Smaller bedroom: extra quilt in the bureau in the closet.
Larger bedroom: extra comforter and quilt in the bureau.
π‘ Please use dark towels for makeup removal.
Living Room & Porch
The porch is not heated β but it warms up well with sun and pond breeze.
Close the porch windows if rain is coming or expected while you’re out.
When you leave: close & lock all windows, latch the storm door, and lock the interior porch door.
The daybed is a TWIN bed β deep, better for stretching out than sitting. Try it!
Living room has a TV + DVD player.
π‘ Feel free to add a rock or two to our rock collection.
The Smaller Bedroom
π Queen bed.
Heat: wall-mounted radiant panel (German-made, widely used in Europe). See the Heater Guide.
Extra quilt in the bureau in the closet.
Circuit breaker panel lives behind the hanging quilt.
The two light switches there are quirky: one turns on a light in the larger bedroom, the other turns on the outdoor wellhouse light. Surprise!
π‘ If you don’t want to use the radiant panel, leave both bedroom doors open and the Monitor heaters will warm this room too.
The Larger Bedroom
π³ The “tree bed” is a log-framed king with substantial log posts (hence the nickname). Sturdy, but please don’t climb it like a jungle gym — we’d like it to last another 20 years.
πΊ The TV rolls to the foot of the bed for easy viewing β roll it back at night so you don’t walk into a log post in the dark.
Several nightlights around the room β move one if you need to.
Extra comforter and quilt in the bureau.
The Bathroom
β οΈ Hot and cold are reversed in the shower β turn toward “cold” for hot. The water gets plenty hot.
Washer/dryer tower: full instructions are in the WiFi & TV Guide.
π₯ Fire extinguisher next to the wash tower (the other is in the kitchen pantry).
The Grill
Please enjoy the grill on the porch.
If propane runs low, refills are available at several businesses in town.
π₯ Fire Pit (Solo Stove)
The fire pit is a Solo Stove β a smokeless design that burns hotter and cleaner than a traditional fire pit. Enjoy it!
π‘ Use dry, seasoned wood for best results. Wet or green wood produces more smoke and won't burn as well.
Start small β kindling first, then build up. The airflow design gets going quickly once it catches.
The ash tray sits underneath the stove β remove it to empty ashes when cool.
β οΈ Never leave the fire unattended and make sure it's fully out before heading in for the night. Douse with water if in doubt.
When done: let it cool fully, empty the ash tray into the small metal trash can, place the cover on top, and rest the fire poker on the cover.
Cameras & The Wellhouse
You may notice keypads and motion sensors from an old Simplisafe system β these are non-functional and the system was disconnected before we started renting.
Two exterior cameras are active: focused on the front door, back door, and roof (the roof view helps with snow management in winter). One is mounted on the wellhouse; the other on a tree on the pond side.
β οΈ Please stay out of the wellhouse for safety reasons.
Power & Generator
β‘ A whole-home Generac generator runs automatically during outages β you don’t need to do anything.
If on generator power, try to avoid running multiple loads of laundry to conserve propane.
The generator does a brief weekly self-test β don’t be alarmed.
If it fails to come on during an outage, call Justin immediately.
